H. Siegel (PSU) and B. Sbarufatti (PSU) report on behalf of the Swift/UVOT team: The Swift/UVOT began settled observations of the field of GRB 201229A 117 s after the BAT trigger (Sbarufatti et al., GCN Circ. 29192). No optical afterglow consistent with the XRT position (Osborne et al. GCN Circ. 29193) is detected in the initial UVOT exposures. Preliminary 3-sigma upper limits using the UVOT photometric system (Breeveld et al. 2011, AIP Conf. Proc. 1358, 373) for the first finding chart (FC) exposure and subsequent exposures are: Filter T_start(s) T_stop(s) Exp(s) Mag white_FC 117 266 147 >18.1 u_FC 275 525 246 >18.0 white 117 1547 392 >18.6 v 604 1597 117 >18.4 b 530 1523 97 >19.1 u 275 5085 353 >18.1 w1 654 5070 255 >18.9 The magnitudes in the table are not corrected for the Galactic extinction due to the reddening of E(B-V) = 0.01 in the direction of the burst (Schlegel et al. 1998). =========== Draft Detection Circular ======== GRB 201229A: Swift/UVOT Detection M. H. Siegel (PSU) and B. Sbarufatti (PSU) report on behalf of the Swift/UVOT team: The Swift/UVOT began settled observations of the field of GRB 201229A 117 s after the BAT trigger (Sbarufatti et al., GCN Circ. 29192). A source consistent with the XRT position (Osborne et al. GCN Circ. 29193) is detected in the initial UVOT exposures. The preliminary UVOT position is: RA (J2000) = 14:02:45.40 = 210.68916 (deg.) Dec (J2000) = +48:11:53.3 = 48.19814 (deg.) with an estimated uncertainty of 0.44 arc sec. (radius, 90% confidence). Preliminary detections and 3-sigma upper limits using the UVOT photometric system (Breeveld et al. 2011, AIP Conf. Proc. 1358, 373) for the early exposures are: Filter T_start(s) T_stop(s) Exp(s) Mag white 117 266 147 18.22 +/- 0.05 v 604 1597 117 >18.4 b 530 1351 78 19.57 +/- 0.29 u 275 525 246 18.19 +/- 0.08 w1 654 5070 255 19.50 +/- 0.23 The magnitudes in the table are not corrected for the Galactic extinction due to the reddening of E(B-V) = 0.01 in the direction of the burst (Schlegel et al. 1998).
