At 12:25:05 UT, the Swift Burst Alert Telescope (BAT) triggered and located GRB 221201A (trigger=1142847) (Troja et al. GCN Circ. 32998). Swift slewed immediately to the burst. At the time of the trigger, the initial BAT position was 48° from the Sun (1.3 hours East) and 81° from the 60%-illuminated Moon. Table 1 contains the best reported positions from Swift, and the latest XRT position can be viewed at http://www.swift.ac.uk/xrt_positions.
Table 2 is a summary of GCN Circulars about this GRB from observatories other than Swift.

Analysis of the BAT data was reported by Stamatikos and Barthelmy (GCN Circ. 33013).
The mask-weighted light curve (Figure 1) shows a single peaked pulse.

Analysis of the initial XRT data was reported by Kennea et al. (GCN Circ. 33002). We have analysed 14 ks of XRT data for GRB 221201A, from 159 s to 110.4 ks after the BAT trigger. The data comprise 375 s in Windowed Timing (WT) mode (the first 10 s were taken while Swift was slewing) with the remainder in Photon Counting (PC) mode. The enhanced XRT position for this burst was given by Osborne et al. (GCN Circ. 33001).
The light curve (Figure 2) can be modelled with a series of power-law decays. The initial decay index is α=5.38 (+0.21, -0.31). At T+219 s the decay steepens to an α of 6.43 (+0.18, -0.21) before breaking again at T+364 s to a final decay with index α=0.929 (+0.018, -0.020).
A spectrum formed from the WT mode data can be fitted with an absorbed power-law with a photon spectral index of 3.19 (+0.07, -0.06). The best-fitting absorption column is 3.42 ± 0.17 x 1
A summary of the PC-mode spectrum is thus:
Total column: 2.8 ± 0.5 x 1
Galactic foreground: 7.5 x 1
Excess significance: 7.4 σ
Photon index: 1.99 (+0.12, -0.11)

The Swift/UVOT began settled observations of the field of GRB 221201A 179 s after the BAT trigger
(Oates and Troja GCN Circ. 33003).
No optical afterglow consistent with the XRT position (Osborne et al. GCN Circ. 33001) is detected in the initial UVOT exposures.
Table 3 gives preliminary
magnitudes using the UVOT photometric system
(Breeveld et al. 2011, AIP Conf. Proc., 1358, 373).
No correction has been made for the expected extinction in the Milky Way
corresponding to a reddening of
