Photometric Calibration issues
Updated January 4, 2011The 20101130 release of the Swift/UVOTA CALDB contains new photometric zero points and new filter effective area curves for the UVOT. These effective area curves, zero points, and additional photometric calibrations were presented at the GRB 2010 conference and are described in Breeveld, et al. (2011, in press). These new calibrations supersede all previous UVOT calibrations. The 20101130 CALDB contains revised:
- updated effective area curves for the UVW1, UVM2, and UVW2 filters
- updated photometric zero points
- photometric zero points for the AB magnitude system
- count-rate to flux density conversion factors for the UVOT and AB magnitude systems
- quickmag data
- Galactic and zodiacal light data
- updated response matrices for the UVW1, UVM2, and UVW2 filters
The UVOT team strongly recommends that all users update to the most recent version of the CALDB. Details of the new calibration can be found on the Swift UVOT Calibration Documents page which is part of the Swift CALDB Web site.
