With Cycle 3, the Swift mission began accepting proposals for limited Target of Opportunity (TOO) observations of non-GRB targets. The list below contains the proposals recommended for observation by the Cycle 3 Peer Review panel. Note that in addition to the below, TOO requests for exceptional transients will continue to be possible through the Swift TOO web site, even for TOO's not accepted into the GI Program. The decision on whether or not to observe a TOO of either category will be made by the Swift Principal Investigator.
PIs of Cycle 3 proposals: Please note that the Cycle 3 announcement (ROSES-06 Appx.D.10 clarified) states, "Once the trigger criteria of an approved target have occurred, the PI should make sure that the target location is in the anti-sun direction before requesting Swift observations. TOO observations closer to the sun than 5 hours RA will not be approved unless they are of exceptionally high scientific priority. The purpose of the anti-sun restriction for TOOs is to orient the observatory, as continuously as possible, toward the night sky in order to optimize follow-up observations of BAT-detected GRBs."
