Expected Malindi Contacts

General Description:

The prime ground station for the Swift mission is located in Malindi, Kenya, and is operated by the Italian Space Agency. Normally most of the Swift Quick Look data are produced from telemetry received at the Malindi Ground Station. The contacts with Malindi are usually supplemented with contacts with NASA ground stations, such as the one in Wallops, VA, (designated WS1). Typically there is a lag of a couple of hours between the telemetry being received at the station and the corresponding data being available on the Swift Quick Look web page, but there is considerable variation in the lag.

Because of the orbit of Swift and the location of Malindi, each day there is a series of contacts separated by about 100 minutes and then a gap for about 6 hours. The gap in Swift contacts is often reduced because of contacts with a NASA station. The table lists the planned contact times and durations for the next 7 days. There is no guarantee that these contacts will actually take place.

This page is normally updated Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at about 9 am local GSFC time.
